Leading Worship for Spiritual Formation: Theory and Practice
Workshop Track Details

Session 1:  Worship and Spiritual Formation—A Paradigm Shift
What is it that makes worship a living reality that goes far beyond ritual into life change?  Views will be shared regarding certain characteristics of worship experiences that serve as building blocks for those wishing to be spiritually formed.  This begins with our idea of who God is.

Session 2:  Fundamentals of WorshipFrom Knowledge to Heart
A brief history lesson of worship along with the elements that Christian worship incorporates will be examined.  This serves as a basis that leads all of us into the formation of a liturgy to which we give ourselves in daily/weekly practice.  This will also provide the praxis for understanding the evolving nature of today’s worship.

Session 3:  Keeping the Focus in a Changing World of Worship—Common Ground
A discussion and understanding of what our world and culture is facing with the dynamics of media, styles, architecture, liturgy, multi-cultural communities, people living out of their spiritual streams of experience and preferences, and what creativity means in today’s society.

Session 4:  Worship Leadership—“Sunday Is Always Coming!”
We will look at ten ways to encourage and inspire worship leaders and volunteers in their journey towards spiritual formation and the making of memorable worship.  Analyzing what is done from preparation through the final postlude, from relationship/team building to personal accountability, and the importance of establishing unity with our peers as well as our community of faith, are but a few of the impacting issues to be discussed.  If time permits some worship planning will be done that we will use in the Friday/Saturday conference that follows the workshop.
