ABOUT THE RETREAT

Busyness is our idol.  Being busy infiltrates the culture of our churches and finds its way into our spiritual lives.  Somewhere in the midst of that busyness our souls long for something deeper and richer.  We long for the “old days” when life seemed slower, when rhythms seemed right and when we heard from God because there was little in the way to keep that “still small voice” out of our lives.  The ancient church and writers seemed to know something of this With-God Life and its sacred rhythms.  Such writings serve not only as lenses to reveal and clarify the biblical guidance from Christians who have walked our path before us, but they also serve as a reminder that a simpler way leads to renewal if we slow down and listen.  JOIN US as we are led into the Great Conversation and then have time to experience spiritual practices that help us know more deeply what a renewal of the soul is.

Children
“If a book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then write it for children.” — Madeleine L’Engle

During the children’s track we will explore a fantastic body of Christian children’s literature.  From picture books, to read alouds, from chapter books to short stories, and all the way into writing and illustrating our own stories, we will learn the value of story in the Bible and the value of story in our own lives.  We will look for the truth, beauty, and goodness of God and learn how spiritual disciplines fit into our Jesus-focused lives.

Adults
As adults we will often spend our time together in large community for teaching and encouragement, as well as in small groups or with others in various settings throughout the week.  The Covenant Retreat schedule also gives adults the flexibility to spend time with God in their own special ways or with their children.  Wind your way through the experiential Prayer Path, encounter Jesus through the Stations of the Cross, envelop yourself in God’s nature along prayer walks, or simply enjoy solitude on the campus or in the Prayer Chapel.

The following activities will be available to draw you further into understanding and experiencing God’s constant presence in your life:
• Community Gatherings
• Guided Reflection Experiences
• Sacred Reading Practice
• Daily Time of Silence
• Daily Guidance Meditations
• Compline
Lectio Divina
• Spiritual Formation Small Group Conversations
• Soul Friends Conversations
• Personal Spiritual Direction (additional fee for direction)
• Prayer Walks
• Experiential Prayer Path

After you submit your registration, we will provide more information on all the spiritual formation options available at the Covenant Retreat.  Or find out more now.
