Lyle SmithGraybeal - Renovaré
Lyle SmithGraybeal - Renovaré Coordinator
Entries for this blog include reflections on my work at Renovaré, my spiritual practice (or lack thereof!) in general, and other life musings. If it seems a little odd at times, please do know that I grew up Southern Baptist, spent time with Quakers, and am now an Episcopalian! :)
Relating Spiritual Formation and Character Formation

In our conversations around the new Renovare ministry Stepping Stones we have been talking about the differences between spiritual formation and character formation. This led me to outline the below non-linear process, which I think is a fair presentation of how a person moves towards Christlikeness over time and includes both the phrases “spiritual formation” and “character formation” as part of the process.

The below is written by René Hardee, an astrophysicist and participant in a group going through the Apprentice Series as led by Mike Renfro on the east coast of Florida. "Albedo" is a measurement of the amount of light that a given object will reflect back when exposed to a light source. René applies this to how we as Christians reflect the light of Christ...
